Raised just east of Nashville only a couple hours drive from Dollywood, Ken inherited a classical music pedigree from his music professor parents. His calling was split between the fine arts and Hee Haw. His father the trumpet professor started him playing at age 5. His mother the piano teacher had him in recitals at age 7. At age 12 he picked up a guitar and started writing agonizing teenage rock ballads with his friends. This didn't win over the girls like he thought, so Ken became increasingly angry and turned to hard rock. Punk, metal and thrash.
This paid off and won him a music scholarship at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. While his mother was hoping he’d be playing trumpet in a Big Ten marching band, Ken was forming his own indie rock groups. Picking up a second major in radio, t.v. and film, college life suited him well – he hung out with the neo-hippies and punks, and tried a little bit of everything – a variety of hair colors and styles, mind altering substances, political rallies, performance art, communal living.
Somewhere in the haze of it all, Ken moved to Minneapolis in his hand-painted VW camper van. Ken thought that Minneapolis was going to look like all the club scenes in “Purple Rain.” It was different.
Eventually, he found that making money was cool, so he started composing and engineering under the moniker Chrome Posy Music. He scored dozens of independent films and broke into music for television in 1994. For five hears he worked for Voiceworks and Wow and Flutter in Minneapolis and LA doing every audio feat imaginable from ADR with Sam Shepard and David Lynch to composing string quartet music for United Airlines.
With Mr. White (whom he met in 1995 while they were both audio
engineers at the now defunct alt radio station, REV-105) he
started up Brahmstedt White Noise (BWN) in Minneapolis 2002
– now located on the 11th floor of the historic Lumber
Exchange building in downtown Minneapolis. In 2005 BWN opened
a second shop in Santa Monica, CA and in 2007 it was relocated
to Hollywood, CA.
